Our Process
Waging Peace From the Quilting Frame

An electric excitement was generated by our first Peace Quilt in 1981. Expert quilters and people who had never before threaded a needle worked together to stitch a simple gesture of open-hearted friendship. That quilt, now in Lithuania, was just the beginning! It opened our eyes to the limitless possibilities for combining peacemaking and quilt making. We determined to explore them all, and to encourage others to join us in the process.

Some of our quilts transform "enemies" into friends; some honor people who are blazing trails to a better future for our global family; some of our quilts focus attention on social issues of vital concern.

Although we have just scratched the surface of what is possible, we know that quilts are disarming and heart-warming. They communicate across culture and language barriers, speaking their peace in powerful and convincing ways.
